Each plant in the Reclaimed Garden was marked with the name of the person who donated it.
The markers are made from reclaimed materials too – scrap shingles that were blown off the roof during Hurricane Ike, old paint, staples and sharpies.
The markers serve three functions:
- Acknowledge each contributor;
- Document the location of items so contributors can find their plants and materials and see how they fit into the garden as a whole; and
- Provide a visual illustration of the variety and breadth of people, organizations and other sources that gave to the garden.
The markers connect contributors to the garden and to each other. These humble little signs laid the foundation for the garden club and the Reclaimed Garden community.
